chocolate orange loaf

It’s half term here this week and the boys have lots of plans to get out and about if the weather behaves! A few picnics will have to made, so I thought I’d treat them with this easily transportable loaf cake. I’m using up the last of the beautiful blood oranges too.

It’s by no means healthy, but I know they will devour the broccoli soup beforehand, which kind of negates the naughty dessert…right?!?

Serves 8

Ingredients

2 tbsp golden syrup

150g light spread or butter

150g light muscovado sugar

30g Cocoa powder

150g plain flour

Half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda

2 eggs, beaten

2 blood oranges, zested and juice from 3 halves, remaining half sliced

100g broken up milk chocolate 


Method

Pre-heat oven to 160oC/150oC fan. Line a loaf tin with baking paper.

Beat the syrup, spread and sugar until fluffy. Add the beaten eggs slowly, followed by the flour, bicarbonate of soda and cocoa powder. Add the zest and juice and mix. Finally add the chocolate chunks and mix briefly.

Pour into the loaf tin and top with the orange slices, pushing them a little into the batter. Bake for 40 -50 mins until a skewer comes out clean.
